Ensure the person seeking care has a current ACAT assessment. These can be arranged through a GP if the resident has not yet been assessed.

STEP 2

Assess whether the location of the facility will suit the residents and their family and friends.  Geographical proximity to family and friends has been correlated with satisfaction with the facility for all parties.

STEP 3

Ensure that you are aware of the differing types of care and the costs associated with these.  This is constantly evolving. You can click here for the latest Department of Health and Ageing Schedule of Resident Fees and Charges

STEP 4

Please make sure that the relevant paperwork has been completed and you are positioned well to make an informed decision about which facility you feel will best meet your needs.  It can be frustrating to find the facility of your dreams and not be able to move quickly to secure accommodation.
